Geoff Butterworth FRSA BWS

Geoff Butterworths' development as a painter coincides with the emergence of a new environment in the North of England - the post industrial landscape.

Freed at last from the smoke and grime, which shrouded them for 150 years, the Pennine moors where Geoff's paintings are subtly hued and sharply detailed against an iridescent sky. The countryside sweeps back into the once grimy valleys, the sun warms the old stone buildings of the town and casts deep shadows, light suffuse the paintings and the artists delights in depicting its special quality.

His work is elegant and sophisticated, "accessible" - using that much-abused word in its best sense. His view is fresh, close to the home, pleasing and truthful.

From the outset Geoff's work was markedly different from the "local artist" stock, for in a very short time after turning professional his work was selling at some of the North's most leading galleries, in the space of 17 years since his outset he has produced over 25 one man full scale exhibitions and countless shared shows.
