Entrepreneur and benefactor

Dr Ogden is a renowned businessman and philanthropist. With a BSc and doctorate in Physics from Durham, he went on to great success in the business world. He co-founded the Computacenter Ltd, one of Europe's leading IT infrastructure companies (where he was Chairman from 1981-1998). He is now non-executive director at Abbey National plc, Biomni Ltd and Psion Ltd. Dr Ogden has shown a keen interest in educational opportunities. Through his Trust ("The Ogden Trust" which he has invested £25 million) he is providing bursaries for talented children from less well-off families to attend fee-paying secondary schools. He is a valued supporter of the Physics Department providing the backing to bring together the Institute for Computational Cosmology and the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology in the newly established Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics.
