The Ashworth and Naden Valleys lie to the North West of the Borough. Protected from overgrazing by their steep sides they have been rejuvenated into fine examples of deciduous woodland with a range of habitats and wildlife. Both valleys hold remnants of the industrial archaeology of the area with a number of mill ruins showing the importance of these valleys within the industrial revolution of the last century.
