The Piethorne Valley lies above Newhey and includes the hamlets of Higher and Lower Ogden.
The valley itself holds a total of six reservoirs, which lie within an impressive backdrop
of rolling moorland. Whilst access around the main reservoir is easy, you can quickly get
onto the higher moorland leading to Windy Hill and the Pennine Way. The area has a number
of old pack horse routes including Rapes Highway, which forms part of the route for the
Pennine Bridleway
