Established in 1989, the Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre is located on the shores of a 50-hectare (125-acre) reservoir against the backdrop of the dramatic Blackstone Edge, at the foot of the Pennines. A full range of water sports courses is available, as well as hire of windsurfers, rowing boats, canoes, dinghies, and catamarans. "Splash-out" days for children (aged 4 to 15) include an introduction to sailing, canoeing, and windsurfing, as well as raft building and treasure hunts. Special facilities are available for those with disabilities. Lake cruises aboard the Lady Alice, a 47-seat passenger launch, are available from April to October. Day and annual permits can be obtained for the launching of privately-owned sailboats and windsurfers.
